Hello-
I’m working with Flickr and the Smithsonian Photography Initiative to create a Flickr meetup and project for the US Presidential Inauguration next week. We will be posting old US Presidential Inaugural photographs from the Smithsonian’s collections and posting Flickr users photographs from the Inauguration events in Washington, DC. It seemed like something you might be interested in? If so, might I please have your email to send you our social media release for the project, which will be going out during the next few days?
Thanks!
I am writing to you on behalf of the Tamil Youth Organisation (TYO) to thank you for covering the vigil organised by TYO in front of 10 Downing Street on Saturday 17th January 2009. Your story and photos helped in creating awareness of the continuing atrocities faced by Tamils on the island of Sri Lanka.
The war in Sri Lanka has been ravaging for 30 years. The Sri Lankan government withdrew from a Norwegian negotiated cease-fire in January 2008. In September 2008 it evicted all United Nations, international aid agency and media personnel from the Tamil areas of the North ensuring no independent sources existed in the conflict areas to verify ground realities. Recent ICRC reports confirm that the Sri Lankan army has cornered an estimated 350,000 Tamil civilians in a tiny area about 230 sq miles in Vanni, northern Sri Lanka. These areas are being indiscriminately bombarded on a daily basis causing great number of civilian casualties and deaths. The many in the British Tamil community views this as a calculated and aggressive genocidal war by the Sinhala dominated Sri Lankan state on the Tamil nation in their historical homeland.
We are very grateful for your coverage and hope that you will continue to report on the Tamils struggle.
For further information on vigils and protests organised by TYO, please do not hesitate to contact info@tyo-uk.org.
Thank you
Yours Sincerely
